Where is Fornvegr based?
Oslo, Norway. All brand operations run from here. Our prints are produced by Gelato, a print-on-demand network with facilities in Norway, Germany, the US, and around the world. Your order is printed in, or close to, the country it ships to.
Is this really Norwegian, or just "inspired by"?
Really Norwegian. The founder is Norwegian, the brand is operated from Oslo, the language on the product, Old Norse, is sourced from academic references and rendered accurately. We don't do "Scandi-inspired" knockoffs.
Are the runes historically accurate?
Yes. We use Elder Futhark (c.150–800 CE), the oldest Germanic runic alphabet, rendered using the Kylver Stone ordering, the standard academic sequence. Transliterations and meanings are sourced from Rudolf Simek's Dictionary of Northern Mythology and R.I. Page's Runes, among others. Where a letter or sound has no direct runic equivalent, we document our mapping openly.

Why Elder Futhark and not Younger Futhark (the one Vikings actually used)?
Honest answer: because Elder Futhark is what most people associate with runes, and it has a complete 24-letter alphabet that maps cleanly to modern names and dates. Younger Futhark (the Viking-age 16-rune alphabet) required the same rune to represent multiple sounds, which would make many customer names unrenderable.
It's a marketing-vs-purist trade-off we made openly. If you want Younger Futhark specifically, write to us, we can produce custom pieces.
How are birth dates rendered?
Elder Futhark has no historical numerals, so dates use the Fornvegr symbolic digit cipher: each numeral (0–9) is mapped to a rune whose meaning fits the digit's role. We document the full system in our Rune Guide. Layout follows your regional preference at checkout: DD·MM·YYYY (Norwegian) or MM·DD·YYYY (US).
Do you do custom work?
For common customizations (your name, your birth date, your family name), yes, that's what the product catalog is for. For custom blessings, longer inscriptions, or bespoke pieces, write to us at hello@fornvegr.com Turnaround on custom: 2–3 weeks.
What's the paper / frame quality like?
Standard paper: 250 gsm archival matte, uncoated. The surface takes ink beautifully without gloss, feels closer to a gallery print than a mass-market poster.
Frames: Solid wood (dark wood or black finish), with plexiglass glazing and a hanging system pre-installed. Assembled and shipped ready to hang.
Will the runes look right at small sizes?
Yes. We set each rune with hand-tuned spacing so they read clearly at every size we offer, down to A4 / 11x14 in. Below A5, rune detail starts to suffer, that's why we don't offer postcards or stickers.

Shipping cost is calculated at checkout. We don't mark it up.
Can I return an item?
Standard, non-personalized prints: 14-day return window from delivery, full refund minus return shipping. See Shipping & Returns.
Personalized items (anything with your name, birth date, or custom text) are made to order and are non-returnable, unless there's a defect, in which case we replace free of charge.
How do I care for the prints?
Hang away from direct sunlight. Our inks are archival-grade and UV-resistant, but no print is fully UV-proof over decades. Framed pieces can be cleaned with a dry microfiber cloth, never use glass cleaner directly on the frame. If you need more detailed care notes, every order ships with a small printed card.
Do you offer gift wrapping?
Not yet. Launch orders ship in protective production packaging from our print partner. Gift presentation is on the roadmap, but we won't sell it until the packaging is real.
Is the brand linked to any political or religious movement?
No. Fornvegr is a cultural heritage brand, we celebrate Norwegian and Norse heritage, full stop. We are not affiliated with any political party, nationalist movement, neo-pagan community, or ritual tradition. Our customers span the political spectrum, from Norway and abroad, and we serve all of them with respect.
